And Then He Was Gone

My students were used to the silent Mexican boy who sat in the back of the room, playing with blocks and occasionally running out of the room to use the bathroom. We were so accustomed to him being there, we didn't even remember what the classroom was like without him.
When Luis didn't show up one day, we were all pretty suprised. No one said anything about it, but we could feel that the classroom was different without him. I went about my normal lesson, but it wasn't the same.
I had aways ignored Luis, and never felt the need to teach him, but when he was gone, I couldn't help but regret, just a little bit, that I hadn't worked harder to teach this boy the way I taught everyone else. I can't help but wonder, how did he turn out, and did I play a part in that?
I never did see Luis again, and have no idea what has become of him. My classroom always felt like it was lacking someone to play with the blocks, but no one has touched them since.
